DURHAM, N.C. – A third consecutive under-par round for Duke men’s golf secured the Blue Devils a second-place finish in the Rod Myers Invitational at Duke University Golf Club on Monday afternoon. Duke placed two inside the top-10, led by Bryan Kim, who tied for third place overall at 7-under, 209. Ethan Evans joined his teammate inside the top-10 with a tie for seventh place overall, with a 4-under, 212, effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND THREE
- As a team, Duke shot a 2-under, 286, in the third and final round.
- Bryan Kim had the second-best round on the course on Monday, shooting a 6-under, 66. The sophomore’s bogey-free effort was highlighted by the front-nine, where Kim shot a 5-under, 31. His day started with two pars, before back-to-back birdies on holes No. 3 and 4 moved Kim into red numbers. Three more birdies across the final four holes of the opening stretch were highlighted by a downhill 20-footer from the fringe of the ninth green right at the turn. The back-nine consisted of eight pars and one additional birdie, on the par-4 16th, closed Kim’s 6-under day.
- Luke Sample also shot under-par in the final round, carding a 2-under, 70, to conclude his tournament. The senior played his first nine holes at 1-over, after a single dropped shot on No. 7, but closed his round strong with three birdies across his final six holes. Sample started his back-nine with three pars, before dropping in back-to-back birdies on the par-4 13th and par-5 14th. One final birdie, on No. 16, closed his under-par day. Overall, Sample tied for 52nd at 8-over, 224.
- William Love turned in a 2-over, 74, on Monday and finished at 2-over, 218, and in a tie for 27th overall for the tournament. An early bogey, on No. 3, was erased with a birdie on the par-5 seventh, but a double-bogey on No. 8 saw Love make the turn at 2-over. The junior reached as high as 5-over, walking off the 12th green, but Love responded with three birdies in his final five holes, including a closing birdie on the 18th, after hitting his approach inside 15 feet.
- Both Ethan Evans and Daniel Choi shot a 4-over, 76, on Monday. Evans finished in a tie for seventh place overall at 4-under, 212, while Choi ended in a tie for 30th on the leaderboard at 3-over, 219.
