Heo, Berridge Post Collegiate-Low 54-Hole Scores In Season Opener

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Daniel Heo and Charlie Berridge rounded out a pair of collegiate-low 54-hole scores as the California golf team placed fourth overall at The Tindall on Tuesday. The Golden Bears (-13) shot a third-round 286 (275-278-286 – 839), dropping to spots into sole possession of fourth at their season-opening event at Aldarra Golf Club.

Cal entered the final round in a tie for second place at 15-under-par and just five shots behind Utah, but it was the Utes who ran away with the tournament victory, shooting a 271 on Tuesday to finish at 33-under-par, 14 strokes better than second-place Pepperdine. South Carolina (-17) and UCLA (-11) finished third and fifth, respectively.

The Bears couldn’t get under par on Tuesday with Heo and Wenliang Xie’s even-par 71s leading the way. Heo paced the team with a tie for sixth individually, shooting a 7-under-par 206 for the tournament. He notched three birdies and three bogeys on the day as he was unable to make a run at the individual title, won by UCLA’s Pablo Ereno (-11). Xie, who tied for 28th with an even-par 218 in his Cal debut, finished the tournament strong with four birdies across his final five holes.

Berridge tied for 11th with a standout 6-under-par 207. The senior, who kicked off Cal’s hot start Monday with a first-round 64, was 1-over-par on Tuesday as he eagled hole 12 for the third straight round to balance out a trio of bogeys on 7, 10 and 15.
