The Korn Ferry Tour Championship is a four-day, 72-hole stroke play event that puts a wrap on the 2024 season. But the tournament within the tournament is the race for a 2025 PGA Tour card.
There will be 30 PGA Tour cards handed out this season, up from the 25 that were doled out for the previous decade-plus. Of those 30, 17 have already been decided. Of the remaining 13, the Korn Ferry Tour states five golfers currently in the top 30 have a 99.99 percent chance of staying in the top 30.
That makes this week a stress test for those trying to nab one of the final eight cards. There were 75 players who qualified for the finale, but the field is 74 with Matt McCarty playing on the PGA Tour as a member for the first time as he earned his immediate promotion with three wins this season. Of the 74, all have a mathematical chance to earn a card, with the golfers 59th and lower needing to win this week. Most of the rest are going to rely on a combination their own performance and the ups and downs of others.
Here’s a closer look at the last five in/first five out with just 72 holes left in the 2024 season.
