DALLAS – Freshman Jack Buchanan posted the best single-round score by a freshman, 64 (-8), since now junior Jackson Rivera carded a 63 during the 2021-22 season. USC stands at the top of the leaderboard as the squad is 15-under par and is three strokes ahead of LMU after the first round of the Trinity Forest Invitational hosted by SMU on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Trinity Forest Golf Club, Dallas, TX.
The Trojans closed out Round One tying their lowest single-round score of the season (273, -15) as three golfers sit inside the top ten individually. USC’s four counting scores from the first round were 64-67-68-74, as this is the second time this season that three individuals have recorded rounds in the 60s during the same round.
In his first career start, freshman Jack Buchanan posted an electric 64 (-8). Buchanan was bogey-free and had eight birdies (four on the front and four on the back). He spread out the success as he had five birdies on par fours, two on the par threes, and one on the par fives.
The two other Trojans in the top ten are sophomore Jack Jerge and senior Gavin Aurilia. Jerge is tied for third with a five-under par (67), and Aurilia is tied for tenth at four-under-par. Jerge had only one blemish on the card with a bogey on hole No. 15 but bounced back with an eagle on hole No. 16. Aurilia posted a 68 after going one-under par on the front nine and three-under-par on the back nine. An eagle highlighted the senior’s round to start the back nine, as he recorded a three on the par five No. 10.
Junior Antonio Safa rounded out the counting scores as he was two-over par for the day with a 74; Safa is currently tied for 58th in the field. The last score of the afternoon was redshirt freshman Tyler Greenspahn. Greenspahn, in his first career start, carded a 77 (+5) and is tied for 79th.
The Trojans head into Round Two at the Trinity Forest Invitational starting at 9 a.m. PT/11 a.m. CT tomorrow at the Trinity Forest Golf Course.
