Cal Makes Leaps On Day 2 At Stanford

3 Bears Birdie 4 Times As Cal Jumps 5 Spots In The Standings

STANFORD – A steady bounce-back Saturday performance saw the California women’s golf team jump five spots in round two of the Stanford Intercollegiate, moving the Golden Bears into ninth place out of 19 teams at 16-over-par 584.

Junior Adora Liu and sophomore Constance Fouillet carded identical even-par 71 rounds and birdied four times each to lead the Bears. Cal shot 3-over 287 as a team, a 10-stroke improvement over the previous day and good for the sixth-best round in the field.

It was a fourth consecutive par or better round for Liu (69-71 | 140), who remains in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard in ninth place individually heading into Sunday’s finale. Fouillet (77-71 | 148) made one of the biggest leaps of the day, moving up 29 spots to 49th place and into a tie with senior Kaylyn Noh (75-73 | 148), who finished 2-over 73 on the day with two birdies.

Senior Jieming Yang also made a big jump in the standings, putting away two birdies on the front nine and carding a 1-over 72 for the day, tied for her best round so far this season.

Freshman Marie-Agnes Fischer was the third Bear to tally four birdies – bringing Cal’s total to 16 for the day and 26 for the tournament – and shot 5-over 76 for the second straight round.

Sunday’s final round begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. PT.
