Women’s Golf Closes 2024 Fall Season at Landfall Tradition – Penn State

Pepsi

WILMINGTON, N.C.  – The Penn State women’s golf team will close out its 2024 fall slate at the 22nd annual Landfall Tradition hosted by the University of North Carolina Wilmington this weekend.

One of the nation’s top collegiate women’s golf tournaments, the event is held at the Country Club of Landfall’s pristine Pete Dye Course. The course features a Par-72, 6,178-yard rolling layout along the scenic intracoastal waterway near Wrightsville Beach.

The event has been held each fall dating back 2002, except for the 2020 fall season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Penn State is making its 10th-straight Landfall Tradition appearance. The Nittany Lions’ best finish came during the 2018 event in which they finished eighth in the 18-team field.

The three-day event features split tees beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday before a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning for the final round of competition.

The Nittany Lions will be paired with South Florida along with individuals from UNC Wilmington, South Carolina and UNC during Friday’s opening round and will tee off on the 10th hole from 8:30 a.m. – 9:06 a.m.

THE TEAM

Penn State’s starting five remains relatively consistent from the Evie Odom Invitational earlier in the month with one change as freshman Gwendolyn Powell (Madison Township, Pa.) slots into the lineup alongside classmate Jiratchaya Jiratthitinun (Bangkok, Thailand) and seniors Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.), Michelle Cox (Allentown, Pa.) and Jami Morris (Chagrin Falls, Ohio).

Jiratthitinun paces the team with a 72.50 stroke average while Nienhaus and Cox are close behind at 73.27 and 73.67, respectively.

Jiratthitinun had her best finish of the season last time out at the Evie Odom Invitational finishing tied for sixth at 1-under, 212, helping the Nittany Lions to a seventh-place finish as Penn State fell just one stroke outside the top-5.

THE FIELD

The nationally known tournament features three additional Big Ten teams as Illinois, Maryland, and Michigan State each join the Nittany Lions down south this weekend.

Along with host UNC-Wilmington, Alabama, Clemson, UCF, Duke, Florida State, Furman, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ole MIss, South Florida, and Virginia Tech round out the 17-team field.

Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com.
