SALT LAKE CITY—Utah Athletics has tied its highest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in department history, registering a mark of 95-percent in the annual GSR report announced today by the NCAA. That figure ties for the second-highest rate among all power conference public institutions. This is Utah’s seventh consecutive year at 93-percent or higher. The report is a measure of the percentage of student-athletes who earned their undergraduate degrees within six years of enrolling.
This year’s 95-percent figure ties the record set in 2018, which was followed by 94-percent rates in 2019, 2020 and 2023. Utah registered a 93-percent rate in 2021 and 2022.
Twelve Utah athletics programs achieved a perfect 100-percent rate in the 2024 report, and the football program recorded its highest score since the GSR began, at 96-percent.
“We’re incredibly proud of our exceptional student-athletes, who continue to demonstrate such great commitment and dedication to their academic pursuits,” said Mark Harlan, Director of Athletics. “They do a phenomenal job of prioritizing their academic responsibilities while competing at the highest levels, pursuing championships and representing the University of Utah so well in the community. All who support Utah Athletics can be extremely proud of the students they impact. I also want to credit our outstanding coaches, staff, academic team and campus partners for their role in this incredible success.”
The 12 Utah Athletics programs to achieve a perfect (100%) GSR score include: Baseball, women’s basketball, beach volleyball, women’s cross-country/track & field, men’s golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, women’s skiing, men’s skiing, softball, men’s tennis and volleyball.
Other notes of significance:
- The gymnastics and men’s tennis programs have had a perfect score in all 13 years since the GSR was introduced, beginning with the incoming class in 2005.
- Volleyball has earned a perfect score in 10 consecutive years.
- The football program set a program record at 96-percent, and has eclipsed 90 percent in each of the last seven years. Its 96% score for 2024 ranked first in the Pac-12 (which is the applicable conference peer group for the data period used for the 2024 GSR report).
