The 2024 Pac-12 champion Sun Devil men’s golf team got better as they have added two in the fall signing period, announced by Head Coach and 2024 GCAA Hall of Fame inductee Matt Thurmond.
“With a smaller roster moving forward these guys are expected to come right in and make an immediate impact. I know that is their expectation too,” says Thurmond.
Both additions are from the southwest, as the program has produced the conference freshman of the year for five straight years.
BOWEN MAUSS | Draper, Utah | Corner Canyon High School
– Ranked #8 in class by Junior Golf Scoreboard
– Sweet 16 in US Amateur 2023 at Cherry Hills as a 16 y/o
– 6th at Junior Invitational
– 5th at Dustin Johnson Invitational
– 11th at Junior Players Championship
– Played PGA Tour event two weeks ago (Black Desert)
Coach Thurmond on Mauss:
“I think Bowen is the best putter we’ve ever recruited. He’s also an incredibly fiery competitor. He’s a guy you just love watching play because he fights so hard and wants to win so much. I love his edge and can’t wait to have him in our program pushing us all to keep getting better.”
Mauss on why he chose ASU:
“I chose ASU because of the amazing coaches that I will have over the next 4 years. One of my dreams is to win a national championship and I know I will have a good chance to do it at ASU. I want to play and win on the PGA Tour and I know that this program will give me a great chance to chase my dream.”
KENT KARLSTROM | Mesa, Arizona | Arizona Prep Academy
– Won AJGA HV3 Foundation Junior Championship
– 2nd at the AJGA AM Technical Solutions Junior
– 8th in the Bobby Chapman
– Kent lived most of his life in California but moved to Arizona in the last year
Coach Thurmond on Karlstrom:
“When people meet Kent they might think Billy Mayfair has returned to the team, but this time as a lefty. Hopefully he will do some of the great things Billy did! Kent is an absolute golf junky. We first had him in a camp and I could not get him to stop hitting balls. He’s got a strong love of the game, a warm and kind personality, and a good career ahead as a Sun Devil.”
