A one-liner for each FedExCup Playoffs participant

The FedExCup Playoffs are here!

With the Regular Season concluding Sunday at the Wyndham Championship, the top 125 in the FedExCup standings have qualified for golf’s postseason and an opportunity to take home the PGA TOUR’s season-long prize.

To prepare you for the trio of Playoffs events, here’s a closer look at the 125 men who have qualified for this week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind outside Memphis. The top 70 in the FedExCup standings after the Playoffs opener will qualify for the BMW Championship at Wilmington (Del.) Country Club, with 30 moving on to the season finale, the TOUR Championship at Atlanta’s historic East Lake Country Club.

Some players are focused on merely advancing to the next week. Others have their eyes on the top spot in the standings and the two-stroke head start that will give them under the TOUR Championship’s unique format, which staggers players’ starting position by their FedExCup standing. The man standing atop the leaderboard at East Lake on Aug. 28 will win both the TOUR Championship and FedExCup.

Here’s a look at every man who still has a chance to hoist the FedExCup.

4. Xander Schauffele: His third multi-win season — but first with 3 victories — included back-to-back wins at Travelers and Genesis Scottish Open.

5. Patrick Cantlay: Defending FedExCup champ has TOUR-best 10 top-10 finishes, including win with Schauffele in New Orleans.

6. Rory McIlroy: Finished outside the top 25 in just 2 of 13 starts; has 8 top-10s including wins at CJ CUP and RBC Canadian Open.

7. Tony Finau: We once wondered why he didn’t win more often. Now he’s unstoppable, entering the Playoffs after back-to-back wins.

8. Justin Thomas: His second PGA Championship win has him on pace for his sixth straight top-10 finish in the FedExCup, including 2017 win.

9. Cameron Young: Rookie of the Year favorite has an incredible 7 top-3 finishes, including runner-up at The Open and T3 at PGA.

10. Sungjae Im: Shriners winner closed Regular Season with consecutive T2s as he seeks fourth straight East Lake appearance.
