Freshman Trent Mierl of the University of Missouri men’s golf team closed day one in Arizona at three-under to lead the Tigers in their spring opener.
Mierl opened play with a strong two-under 70 in the first round, including three birdies. The freshman stayed in the red with three birdies in his first seven holes of the second round and a fourth before play was called with three holes remaining in his second 18. Mierl finished the day tied for 22nd in the 76-man field at three-under.
Following Mierl in the standings is Virgilio Paz at +2, Trevor Mierl at +2, Brock Snyder at +7 and Veikka Viskari at +8. Trevor Mierl recorded a hole-in-one on the seventh during the first round, while Snyder carded the team’s second eagle during the second round.
As a team, the Tigers are currently 14th at +10.
The final round is set for Tuesday with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
