DADE CITY, Fla. – Fighting Illini women’s golf finished the Spring Break Shootout in second place at 21-over (873) after carding a third round team total of 295 (+11) today at the Lake Jovita Golf Club. Three Illinois golfers placed in the top 15 and two recorded top 10 finishes.
Victoria Zheng posted her second top 10 of the season, ending the tournament tied for sixth at 3-over after her final round of 72 (+1). Zheng’s scoring average of 4.00 (E) on par 4s was tied for the fourth-lowest mark among the field and her nine total birdies ranked tied for sixth most.
Anna Ritter tallied her second top 10 finish in her last three events, and third overall during the campaign, at tied for 10th following her third round 76 (+5). Ritter rolled home the second-most birdies (13) at the Spring Break Shootout and led the Illini with a 3.07 (+1) on par 3s, which also ranked tied-for-fourth-best among the field.
Brielle Mapanao tallied her best finish of the season, tied for 12th, after carding a 74 (+3) in today’s final round. Mapanao’s 4.75 (-3) scoring average was the best among the squad and tied for fourth best among all individuals.
Lexanne Halama finished tied for 15th, Yurang Li finished tied for 14th and Erica Lee, competing as an individual, finished tied for 20th after rounds of 75 (+4), 74 (+3) and 75 (+4), respectively.
Florida Gulf Coast takes home the team title at 14-over (866) and New Mexico State’s Emma Bunch earned individual medalist honors at 4-under (209).
The Fighting Illini will be back in action on Friday when they begin play in the Florida State Match Up at Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
