Women's Golf Still In Contention After Day One of The Chevron Silverado Showdown


Arizona finishes day one of the Chevron Silverado Showdown at 12-over par and tied for 10th. Cal State Fullerton and Northwestern are leading the tournament at 1-under par. The Cats finished their first half of the round at 3-over par and played the last nine 9-over par. Maria Cabanillas, competing as an individual, cards a 71 and is in a tie for sixth. 

Cabanillas shot 35 and 36 with a combined four birdies on her day. At 1-under par she is five shots off of the leader and only a shot back from second place. Lilas Pintheir started her round with two birdies and bogey free through nine holes. But, she had four bogeys in her fina nine holes to finish at 2-over par. Also finishing 2-over and tied for 30th was Charlotte Back. She struggled to begin her round but finished strong with an even par back nine. 

Nena Wongthanvimok and Julia Misemer both check in at 4-over par and are tied for 46th. Both of them had a double bogey which hurt their scores. Misemer was even par through nine holes but had a few mistakes down the back stretch. Carolina Melgrati finished at 5-over par and tied for 54th place. 

Arizona is tied for fourth in par three scoring average. But, they struggled to score well on the par fours and fives. Maria Cabanillas dominated the par fives playing them 3-under par in round one.

Tee times for the Wildcats begin at 8:30 am MST.
