Modleski Wins Individual Title, Virginia Earns No. 1 Seed in Match Play at 2025 ACC Men’s Golf Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (theACC.com) – With a birdie on the final hole, sophomore Jacob Modleski became the first-ever Notre Dame player to claim medalist honors at the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship on Saturday at the Club at Olde Stone.

On a day where he needed to play 31 holes to complete Round 2 and finish Round 3, Modleski fired a 3-under (69) in his final 18 holes to secure the individual title by a stroke over Florida State’s Tyler Weaver. His round was headlined by four birdies on the back nine, including his final two holes to clinch the title. It marked the first tournament victory of the season for the sophomore.

In the final team standings, Virginia earned the No. 1 seed for Sunday’s match-play quarterfinals, running away from the field to win by eight shots ahead of second-place North Carolina. The Cavaliers finished at 18-under (846) over three rounds and were the only team to shoot below 280 in the championship, posting a 278 in the first round. Finishing first in stroke play at the ACC Championship since match play was added in 2021, Virginia placed four of its five players inside the top 10.

Virginia will meet Georgia Tech in the match-play quarterfinals, which earned the eighth seed with its 3-over (867), three shots ahead of ninth-place Louisville. Stroke-play runner-up and defending ACC champion North Carolina secured the No. 2 seed and will square off with seventh-seeded Wake Forest. The other quarterfinal matchups will feature third-seeded Florida State against sixth-seeded California, and fourth-seeded Clemson taking on fifth-seeded SMU.

The quarterfinals are set for Sunday, April 27, at 8:30 a.m. ET. The match-play semifinals will follow at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET, streaming live on ACC Network Extra. The match-play final is set for Monday, April 28, at 11 a.m. ET, and will also air live on ACCNX. The ACC Men’s Golf Championship is a non-ticketed event, and admission is free.
