COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland men’s golf sophomore Emil Riegger earned an NCAA Regionals bid Wednesday.
Riegger will compete in the Amherst Regional, hosted by Liberty, May 12-14 at the Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, Va. Riegger is one of 10 individuals competing in the Amherst Regional and is seeded fourth out of the 10. Thirteen teams are also competing in the Amherst Regional.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 12-14. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. Texas is the host institution for the 2025 championships.
Riegger transferred to Maryland from Drake before this season. He carried a scoring average of 70.6 this season. He picked up four top 10 finishes and seven top 20 finishes in eight events. Last weekend, Riegger tied for fifth at the Big Ten Championships and was named to the All-Big Ten Championship Team. Riegger went -1 overall with a score of 209 (68-70-71).
Riegger is the first Terrapin to earn an NCAA Regionals bid since Peter Knade and David Kocher competed in the 2018 NCAA Regionals.
