Sun Devil Men’s Golf makes Tuesday a moving day at NCAA Regional

The fifth-ranked Arizona State men’s golf team had a heck of day at its NCAA Regional held in Bremerton, WA, at Gold Mountain Gold Club on Tuesday. The Sun Devils shot 14-under 274, led by a 7-under 65 by Connor Williams that saw six birdies and an eagle, as Williams shot 6-under in a nine-hole stretch.

The Sun Devils are at 16-under 560 (286-274) through two rounds with one to play Wednesday, and are nine shots shots back of Florida (25-under 551). More importantly, the Sun Devils are 23 strokes better than the cut line.
 
Freshman Peer Wernicke is at 4-under 140 (69-71) which has him tied for sixth with Preston Summerhays, who had an eight-stroke flip going from 74 Monday to a 66 Tuesday.

Josele Ballester is a 2-under 142 (70-72) and is tied for 13th.

About The Regional
The Sun Devils are the top seed in the 14-team regional, as it won back-to-back regional titles in 2022 and 2023 (shot a combined 97-under) and has won or tied for a NCAA regional title nine times. ASU tied with Arizona in 1991 and tied with New Mexico in 1998. It won the title outright in 1995, 1999, 2001 2009, 2016, 2022 and 2023. Only Oklahoma State (16) and Texas (10) have won more NCAA Regional titles.
