ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Arizona Women’s Golf begins postseason play at the Albuquerque Regional on Monday, May 9 at the Championship Course at UNM. The Wildcats, playing in NCAA Regionals for a 29th consecutive season, are the fourth-seeded team in Albuquerque and will be the first team teeing off the 10th hole at 7:15 a.m. (MST) on Monday. The entire field of 12 teams will play 54 holes over three days with the top four teams advancing to NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Arizona later this month.
“This season has had its set of challenges, but we have adapted and overcome them to reach this point of the season,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “Money and Gile, as our most experienced players, have done a great job of leading our young core, and I believe their previous experience at regionals will be a key factor to a successful week in Albuquerque. NCAA Regionals is where our program has shined throughout its history, and I am excited to see our young ladies represent Arizona Women’s Golf.”
Arizona, and the rest of the field, battled rainy, soggy conditions at the Pac-12 Championships two weeks ago in Eugene, Oregon. The Cats overcame a slow start to rise into a tie for fifth as freshman Carolina Melgrati finished in a tie for third, which was her best finish of the season. The stellar showing at the conference championships capped a strong season for Melgrati who earned an All-Pac-12 Team selection from the league’s coaches.
The complete field at the Albuquerque Regional includes, in order of seeding:
- Oregon
- Florida
- Texas
- Arizona
- Georgia
- TCU
- Louisville
- North Texas
- Oklahoma
- Sam Houston State
- Northern Arizona
- New Mexico State
The Wildcats are familiar with New Mexico’s home course, having played in the Lobos’ Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational last year. Arizona has played in three events at the Championship Course at UNM since 2016-17 while playing in NCAA Regionals there in 1994 and 2005.
