Cards Drop to Third Place at the Michael A. Marino


MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – When play resumed on Monday morning, the University of Louisville men’s golf team shot a 5-under-par 283 and will head into the final round of the Michael A. Marino in third place after 36 holes.

Due to the threat of severe weather in the area on Monday, tournament officials had the 16-team field play 27 holes on Sunday at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club (par 72, 7,233 yards).

The field was able to complete the final nine holes of the second round at the Coastal Carolina hosted tournament on Monday morning with Liberty sharing the lead with NC State.

Louisville enters the final day just one shot off the lead and will tee off at 9:30 a.m. EST.

Cooper Claycomb is the top Louisville performer after 36 holes. The junior is in second play at 8-under-par after carding a 4-under-par 68 for the second-straight day. Brady Smith is in fourth place at 7-under-par after he shot a 6-under-par 66 on Monday. The sophomore birdied five of the last eight holes to push his way into contention.

Easton Johnson is tied for 26th place at even-par, while Warren Thomis is in 49th and Adam Buchanan is tied for 58th after shooting a 4-over-par 76.
