ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Washington women’s golf team’s season came to an end Wednesday as the Huskies finished ninth at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
The Huskies, seeded eighth in the 12-team regional, needed a top-four finish at the Regional to earn a berth in the NCAA National Championship tournament later this month in Scottsdale.
Washington matched its round-two score, compiling a team total of 305 in the third round Wednesday. The Huskies finished the regional with a 51-over 903. All 12 teams finished the tournament over par, while just two individuals scored under par over 54 holes.
“It’s a very disappointing end to our season,” said UW head coach Mary Lou Mulflur, who will have all five NCAA Regionals starters return in 2022-23. “We have a lot to work on moving forward. We will need to grind all summer if we expect to get back to the NCAA finals. We need to be much better at the basics of the game. We take the little things too lightly and it hurt us this week tremendously. I love this team and am looking ahead.”
For the second day in a row, the UW was led by freshman Jamie Hsieh, who shot a 2-over 73 Wednesday. Hsieh was also the Huskies’ top individual finisher, as she tied for 19th place at 9-over.
Sophomore Stefanie Deng and freshman Kennedy Knox both finished in a tie for 36th place overall, at 14-over. Knox shot a 5-over 76 on Wednesday, while Deng carded an 8-over 79. Sophomore Camille Boyd shot a 6-over 77 in the third round to finish 17-over for the tournament, good for a tie for 43rd. Junior Brittany Kwon finished in a tie for 54th.
Top-seeded San Jose State won the regional at 10-over, three shots better than second-seeded Virginia. Arkansas and Michigan finished third and fourth to advance the national finals.
