Tar Heels 2nd At NCAA Women's Golf Regional


Tar Heel senior Inez Ng carded a 2-under 68 Tuesday to lead the University of North Carolina to second place after 36 holes in the NCAA Women’s Golf Chapel Hill Regional at UNC Finley Golf Club.

 

Carolina shot even-par 280 in the second of three rounds and is 6 under par with 18 holes to play. Top-seeded Texas had the round of the day, a 9-under 271, and leads the field of 12 teams at 10 under par, four clear of UNC.

 

The top five teams advance to the NCAA Championship, which begins May 22 in Carlsbad, Calif.

 

Texas and UNC are 10 and 6 under par, respectively, the only teams below par. Oklahoma State is third (+5), NC State is fourth (+7) and Mississippi State is fifth (+9).

 

Virginia is sixth, five strokes behind Mississippi State for the final spot to advance. Kent State and Michigan State are tied for seventh at 16 over.

 

Cindy Hsu of Texas (66-66) is the individual leader at 8 under par. She is three shots ahead of her Longhorn teammate, Farah O’Keefe. Carolina’s Megan Streicher (65-72) is third at 3-under 137.

 

UNC’s Ing Iadpluem (69-69) is one of four players tied for fourth at 2-under 138.

 

Carolina’s Reagan Southerland (69-72) is 1 over, Marie Prats-Rigual (71-71) is 2 over and Ng (76-68) is 4 over after two rounds.

 

The third and final round gets underway at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Admission and parking are free.
