VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Taylor Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) carded a career-low 1-under, 69, during the final round of the Evie Odom Invitational on Tuesday morning to register a career-best finish at tied for 24th.
“I felt really comfortable out there today,” commented Waller. “I really focused on my target and how I wanted to hit each shot and I was able to make a lot of good swings as a result. Everything kind of just came together today.”
Waller was the big mover of the day as she climbed 21 spots over the final 18 holes. The senior started on the tenth hole and went out in 2-under, 33, and was 3-under heading to her 18th hole of the day before closing with a double-bogey.
“I loved that Taylor played her heart out today,” mentioned head coach Denise St. Pierre. “She went OB with her tee shot on the final hole, but still held it together to get up-and-down out of a bunker to finish under-par.”
As a team, Penn State finished 12-over, 292, and concluded the tournament in 12th place. UCF used the lone under-par round of the day to move from fifth at the start of the day to champions by the end of the day with a 1-over score for the week following a 6-under round on Tuesday.
College of Charleston (8-over), Coastal Carolina (9-over), Charlotte (12-over) and Sacramento State (13-over) rounded out the top-five.
Senior Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) and freshman Katie Scheck (Greensboro, Ga.) each fired rounds of 3-over, 73, finishing the tournament tied for 20th and tied for 29th, respectively. For Scheck it is a career-best finish as she moved up one spot from where she began the day.
Junior Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) carded a final round 74 (4-over) while classmate Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) and freshman Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) each finished with final round 76’s.
Penn State will have the next three weeks off before returning to action on Halloween Weekend for the Landfall tradition in Wilmington, N.C. to close out the fall portion of its 2021-22 schedule.
