UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s golf team is set for its lone home tournament of the 2021-22 season this weekend when the Nittany Lions host the 45th-annual Rutherford Intercollegiate at Penn State’s Blue Course Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s first round begins at 7:30 a.m. with the second round to follow. The final round Sunday begins at 8:00 a.m. Tee times and pairings for both days will be available on GolfStat.
The 14-team field includes host Penn State, fellow Big Ten institutions Maryland and Michigan State, Bowling Green, Connecticut, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, George Mason, Georgetown, Loyola (Md.), Oakland, Richmond, Saint Mary’s and Seton Hall. George Mason is coached by Nittany Lion alumnus Greg Pieczynski ’06.

The Nittany Lions have dominated the Rutherford since it was established as the Nittany Lion Invitational in 1975, winning the tournament 28 times. Twenty Penn State golfers have medaled atop the leaderboard, the last being Cole Miller in 2018.
The tournament became known as the Rutherford Intercollegiate in 1983 to honor R.B. “Pop” Rutherford Sr., the man known to the Nittany Lions as the “father of Penn State golf.” …
