2025-26: Season in Review - Stanford Cardinal

STANFORD, Calif. — One of the greatest teams in the history of Stanford Athletics? That’s in the conversation for Stanford women’s golf, as the Cardinal closed out an incredible 2025-26 season as NCAA Champions for the third time in five years, securing a dynasty.

SWEEPING THROUGH LA COSTA

Stanford returned to the top of the women’s golf world with an incredible run at Omni La Costa, specifically in match play.

After entering as the top overall seed for match play once again, the sixth year in a row, the Cardinal put on three of the best rounds of match play that the NCAA Championship has seen. Stanford drew eighth-seeded Pepperdine in the quarterfinals and breezed past the Waves, winning 3-0 while leading in the other two matches that didn’t finish. The same can be said for Stanford’s result in the semifinals, beating an upstart Eastern Michigan squad for a spot in the finals.

A heavyweight tilt was expected between Stanford and No. 2 USC for the national championship, but Stanford took a firm hold on most of the matches early and never surrendered those leads. Stanford beat USC officially 3-0, leading in one unfinished match while trailing in another, with Megha Ganne knocking down the winning putt on the 15th green. It was a special moment for Ganne, who finished runner-up in stroke play, closing out her Cardinal career.

Stanford secured its third national championship in five years, becoming the first women’s golf dynasty in the NCAA since Duke (2005-07).

A RUN UNLIKE ANY OTHER

Stanford has been the most dominant golf program in the country over the last four years, and it isn’t particularly close. Stanford’s overall win-loss-tie record is 506-20-5, coinciding with the four-year run of current seniors Megha Ganne and Kelly Xu. Some other notables during that span…

Team wins – 28

Individual wins – 23

All-Americans – 22

THE BEST TEAM…EVER?

With Stanford returning its entire starting lineup from its 2025 NCAA national runner-up team, there is a conversation that this team might have been the best college golf team ever assembled. It’s hard to argue with facts.

Four different individuals won this year, the second consecutive year Stanford has boasted four individual winners. Two golfers (Paula Martín Sampedro and Andrea Revuelta) won twice. The highest…
