Sun Devil men’s golf head coach Matt Thurmond has signed a great one who entered the transfer portal and is a top 40 WAGR player.
Anh Minh Nguyen — No. 36 in the WAGR — earned GCAA Freshman All-America and GCAA All-West Region honors this past year with an Oregon State record 69.13 stroke average in 23 rounds, 17 of them at par or better. He will play in Tempe next year.
He also earned West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, and the season included a Beaver record 61 (-10) at the Bandon Dunes Collegiate.
He posted a season-low 54-hole total of 199 (-17) at the Amer Ari Invitational, shooting 64-68-67 and had three top-10 finishes, including medalist honors at the Bandon Dunes Collegiate, shooting 200 (-13) with rounds of 61-70-69.
