Women's Golf Headed To Ann Arbor For NCAA Regional

The University of North Carolina women’s golf team earned a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional which will be played May 9-11 at the University of Michigan Golf Course.

The Tar Heels, playing under the direction of first-year head coach Aimee Neff, are competing in a regional for the first time since 2019. This is UNC’s 27th appearance since the NCAA went to the regional format in 1993.

San Jose State is the No. 1 seed in Ann Arbor, one of six regional sites across the country. Virginia (2), Michigan (3), Arkansas (4), UCF (5), Virginia Tech (6), Carolina (7), Washington (8), Ohio State (9), Pepperdine (10), Xavier (11) and Oakland (12) round out the field in Ann Arbor.

“We are certainly excited to be invited to play in the NCAA Tournament,” says Neff. “Competing in a regional is just the first step; we want to advance out of the regional to play in Arizona in the national championship. But first you have to qualify for the regionals and that is a result of playing consistently well all year long. We’ve beaten a handful of the teams that are also in Ann Arbor this year, but we will be seeing a couple of west coast teams for the first time this year.”

The top four teams and two highest-finishing individuals not on those four teams will advance to the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 20-25.

Carolina is one of 10 ACC teams to receive invitations to play in the NCAA regionals.

“I’m familiar with the Michigan course having played at Michigan State,” says Neff. “I have a level of comfort on that course I can pass on to our players. It’s bent grass greens like we have here at (UNC) Finley. We’ve been trending up all season, so I feel we are in a good place and are looking forward to playing in the regional.”
