Alabama Women’s Golf in 10th After Day One of ANNIKA Intercollegiate


LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The Alabama women’s golf team carded a team score of 303 (+15) and is 10th overall after Monday’s opening round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. The Crimson Tide, ranked No. 17 in the nation, is one of 10 out of the 12 teams that entered the event ranked among the nation’s top-20, according to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Preseason Top-25.

Benedetta Moresco topped Alabama and is in a tie for 24th overall with a 2-over par 74 on the par 72, 6,408-yard Royal Golf Club course. Freshmen Kynadie Adams and Taylor Kehoe, each making their Crimson Tide debut after stellar prep careers, are in a tie for 35th at 4-over 76.

The Highlights

  • Moresco’s round saw a birdie on the par 4 405-yard sixth hole, followed by bogeys on Nos. 7, 14 and 17

    • She will enter the second round trailing round one leader Amanda Sambach of Virginia, who paces the field by four strokes carding a 7-under par 65

  • Both Adams and Kehoe, along with Sarah Edwards, led the Crimson Tide with three birdies apiece
  • Edwards collected all three of her birdies across her final four holes of play, resulting in a 5-over par 77
  • Isabella van der Biest rounded out the Tide with a 79 and is in a tie for 54th overall

The Field

  • No. 10 Virginia (-4, 284) holds a four-shot lead over both No. 16 Texas and No. 20 Michigan (E, 288)
  • Tournament host and No. 20 Duke is tied for fourth with defending national runners-up Oregon (+4, 292)
  • In addition to the aforementioned top-25 teams, other ranked teams competing in the field include No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 4 South Carolina, No. 7 Arizona State, No. 13 Auburn and No. 14 Florida

Fun Facts

  • Edwards began the day by shooting a 7-over par 43 on the front nine, however, responded with three birdies and just one bogey across her last nine to finish with a 2-under 34 – a nine-stroke improvement after she made the turn
  • Kehoe averaged 3.00 strokes on par 3 holes which was tied for the second-best average in the field in round one
