North Carolina’s Austin Greaser and David Ford shot even-par 70s on Sunday and senior Ryan Burnett closed with a 71 as the Tar Heels shot the fifth-best score of the third and final round at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at the Olympia Fields North Course.
Burnett and Greaser tied for 20th place to lead UNC, which placed 11th at 23-over 863.
Stanford won the team title at 9 under par. The Cardinal was the only team to finish the tournament under par. Florida was second a dozen shots behind Stanford.
The Cardinal’s Michael Thorbjornsen was the individual medalist at 7-under 203, a shot better than Florida’s Ricky Castillo and Illinois’ Adrien Dumont de Chassart.
Burnett (70-74-70–214) and Burnett (72-71-71–214) tied for 20th at 4 over. Dylan Menante (74-72-73) tied for 43rd at 9-over 219, David Ford (74-77-70) tied for 50th at 11-over 221 and Peter Fountain (75-72-75) tied for 56th at 12-over 222.
The Tar Heels return to action Oct. 3-4 at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
