COLUMBUS, Ohio – The effects of Hurricane Ian have been felt all up the east coast and that was certainly part of the story on Monday in the Hamptons as Ohio State completed the first day of the Hamptons Intercollegiate. The Buckeyes shot rounds of 309 and 301 and currently sits in sixth place as round two was suspended by darkness.
Junior Maxwell Moldovan made four birdies in his morning rounds of even-par 72 and posted two more birdies in his afternoon round of 75. He is currently tied for fifth at 3-over par headed to Tuesday’s final round.
The average score for the day among the 60 golfers was nearly 78.
Adam Wallin posted one of the lowest rounds of the morning, carding a 1-over 73 after making four birdies. He came in with a 79 in the second round and is in a tie for 20th.
Senior Jackson Chandler returned to the lineup and put together two steady rounds of 78-77.
The toughest hole of the day was the lone par-4 ninth as it played more than a shot over par. If Neal Shipley didn’t have to play the ninth hole, he would have had a fine day. The Pennsylvania native rebounded from his tough opening round to card a 2-over 74 in the afternoon, which including a triple-bogey seven on the ninth, his final hole of the day.
Freshman Topher Reed also had a nice bounce-back round in the afternoon, carding a 3-over 75. Fellow freshman Joe Wilson IV, who is playing as an individual, opened with an 81 and is just 5-over for his second round with one hole to finish up.
The final round is set for Tuesday morning following the completion of the second round.
