COLUMBUS, Ohio – Another tournament and another Top 10 finish for Ohio State junior Maxwell Moldovan. This week, it was a runner-up finish at the Hamptons Intercollegiate at the Maidstone Club in the East Hamptons, N.Y.
Moldovan carded a final round 73 to post a 54-hole score of 4-over par. On the surface, his rounds of 72-75-73 don’t look all that impressive but considering the wind was howling and the cool temperatures, the scoring average for the field was near 78.5 over the three rounds. Moldovan ended the week fourth in the field in pars made. This was the 10th Top-10 finish of his career and his eighth Top 5 finish.
Adam Wallin made three birdies and just three bogeys in his final round of even-par 72. That was one of just two rounds on the day at par or better. He finished in a tie for 11th at 9-over par, notching the 10th Top 20 finish of his career.
Jackson Chandler posted a third steady round of 79 to finish in a tie for 24th. Freshman Topher Reed, who was playing in his first event as a member of the scoring five, carded a final round 80 and finished 40th. Neal Shipley was just two shots behind Reed after a final round 81.
Freshman Joe Wilson IV, who was playing as an individual this week, got up early on Tuesday to finish his second round and would go on to post a 5-over 77.
The Buckeyes will come home and prepare for their final tournament of the fall which comes up at the end of the month. Ohio State will take part in The Cal Poly Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif., on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
