Purdue Moves Up on Moving Day at Isleworth

WINDERMERE, Fla. – The Purdue men’s golf team posted one of its best rounds of the season, resulting in a jump up the leaderboard at the loaded Isleworth Collegiate at Isleworth Country Club outside Orlando, Florida.

The Boilermakers, ranked No. 42 in the latest Golfstat rankings, shot the day’s second-lowest score, a 5-under par 283 to move up to third place after 36 holes at 2-under par 574 (291-283).

Purdue trails No. 3-ranked and leader Auburn by 18 shots (-20; 554) and No. 11-ranked Florida by 10 shots (-12; 562) entering tomorrow’s final round. No. 28-ranked LSU is fourth at 1-over par 577 and is followed by No. 9 Illinois and No. 31 North Florida at 3-over par 579. No. 24-ranked Arizona is seventh at 5-over par 581.

The field consists of seven teams ranked in the nation’s top 42 and 14 individuals ranked among the nation’s top 100, according to the latest Golfstat rankings.

Junior Herman Sekne fueled the move and despite a hiccup late, has put himself in position for his third individual tournament victory. Sekne is second at 9-under par 135 (68-67), just one shot behind Auburn’s Brendan Valdes. Sekne went out in 30 and was 7-under par through 15 holes before back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17 dropped him out of the lead.

Sekne has made his move on the par-5’s, playing the longest holes on the course in 7-under par (4.13 per hole) which includes a pair of eagles.

Nels Surtani has also provided a big lift, looking for his second career top 10. Surtani is tied for ninth at 3-under par 141 (72-69). Surtani was 3-under par through 12 holes, then played even-par, steady golf the rest of the way for his third career round in the 60s.

Nick Dentino (77-72=149) and Luke Prall (74-75=149) are tied for 37th at 5-over par 149, while Peyton Snoeberger is tied for 70th at 13-over par 157 (81-76=157).

Purdue will play its final round of the fall on Tuesday, teeing off hole No. 1, at 9:40 to 10:20 a.m. ET, while being paired with SEC powers Auburn and Florida.
