Tech prepares for Battle at Briar's Creek

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team will compete in the Battle at Briar’s Creek, Feb. 6-7, for its first action of the 2023 spring slate.

The Hokies were able to compete in four fall tournaments against top competition to gear up for their spring gauntlet. In its final outing of the fall, Tech finished fifth out of 15 teams in the Furman Intercollegiate. The first tournament of the spring will be contested in Johns Island, South Carolina and will be hosted by the College of Charleston.

The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek will be the course of choice for the two-day, three-round tournament. Measuring out to 7,125 yards, the par 72 course does not lack a challenge. Designed by the famous Rees Jones, the private golf club is integrated with its surroundings, it embraces the natural biomes surrounding Johns Island. This course includes plenty of marshes, water hazards and wildlife that will pose a difficult task for any golfer.

Rounds one and two will both be played on Monday. Round one’s shotgun start will begin promptly at 8 a.m., with round two beginning later in the afternoon. The final round will occur Tuesday at 8 a.m.

Virginia Tech’s five-man team for the Battle at Briar’s Creek will include the duo of fifth-year seniors Drew Brockwell and Cameron Moore, two juniors Charlie Hanson and Kobe Valociek and Balthazar Duclos representing the freshman class. Mehrbaan Singh will compete as an individual.

The Hokies will be joined in the 11-team tournament by ACC counterparts Wake Forest and Boston College. Tech will be paired with Campbell and Wake Forest’s individuals for Monday’s opening 36 holes.

The Hokie Club and Virginia Tech Men’s Golf are challenging Hokie Nation to make a Pledge Per Birdie throughout the 2023 season. To make a pledge or to learn more about the campaign, please click here.
