ORLANDO, Fla. – The Wake Forest Women’s golf team has a seven-stroke lead on the field after the first 18 holes of the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club. The Deacs’ team score of 268 (-20) is the lowest team 18-hole score in program history and the lowest team 18-hole score in relation to par in program history.
Wake Forest led all teams in scoring on par threes and fives and was second in scoring on par fours. The team recorded 61 pars and 22 birdies on the day and was one of three teams to have a player record an eagle.
Rachel Kuehn led the way for the Deacs all day, with five birdies on her first nine holes to make the turn at five under par. Her momentum continued on the second nine as she dropped three more birdies before the day was done for a share of the individual lead heading into Monday’s second round.
Lauren Walsh also got off to a hot start, with three birdies on her first nine and three more on her second. She finished the day with just one bogey on the scorecard and five under par for a spot inside the top five on the individual leaderboard.
Emilia Migliaccio and Carolina Chacarra each also registered one bogey each on their scorecards. Chacarra had two birdies and her only bogey on her first nine holes of the day and bounced back with three more birdies on her second nine. Two of which came in her final three holes of the day. She will start the second round four under par inside the top 10. Migliaccio had two birdies on her first nine and two more on her second before finishing the day three under par and inside the top 15.
Junior Mimi Rhodes is T66 and two over par going into Monday’s second round. Freshman Anne-Sterre Den Dunnen, playing as an individual, finished her first championship season round one over par and T55.
Second Round
Monday’s second round will begin with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. Wake Forest will be going off the first tee in nine-minute intervals beginning at 10 a.m. The Deacs will be paired with Northwestern and Mississippi State. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
