Five Things to Know: Puerto Rico Classic

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men’s golf is teeing off the spring season this Sunday in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico at Purdue’s Puerto Rico Classic. The Badgers will play a total of 54 holes from Sunday, Feb. 12 to Tuesday, Feb. 14. 

Here are five things you need to know before the men tee off on Sunday:

1. Last Time Out: Wisconsin last officially competed in the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational back on October 16-17, 2022. The team finished with a score of 11-below-par to T14 out of 16 teams. Maxime Legros led the Badgers with a -9 to T9 for his third top-15 finish of the fall. Cameron Huss finished with a -3 to T47 while Ryan Smith found himself not far behind Huss, with a -1 to T53. Daniel Aas shot a +5 to end T77 and Max Schwarz rounded out the lineup for Wisconsin, tallying a +8 to finish in 81st place. 

2. The Course: Designed by PGA Professional, Tom Kite, the Grand Reserve Golf Club is a unique 18-hole course set right by the ocean. The course features seashore paspalum grass, white silica sand bunkers and a variety of water hazards. Just three weeks after the Puerto Rico Classic, the Grand Reserve will host the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open. 

3. The Tournament: The 30th annual Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Golf Club will be played at 7,152 yards as a Par 72. Eighteen holes will be played each day with a shotgun start for a total of 54, with the first round starting Sunday at 6:30am CT. Monday will also begin at 6:30am CT, while the final 18-holes will start on Tuesday at 5:30am CT. 

4. The Field: Teams competing include College of Charleston, East Tennessee, Georgia, Iowa, Marquette, Maryland, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Purdue, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Representing Wisconsin is Maxime Legros, Cameron Huss, Coalter Smith, Daniel Aas and Clayton Tribus.
