Strong Start To Spring - Stanford University Athletics


PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – No. 1 Stanford women’s golf opened its spring season on Sunday with a 2-over 286 in the first round of the Therese Hession Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club. The Cardinal is tied with Ohio State and San Jose State for second place, just four strokes off Baylor’s lead.

Sophomore Rose Zhang led the Cardinal over the opening 18 holes, totaling six birdies en route to a 3-under 68 to sit in a tie for second. Zhang, and several others, are two shots off Silje Ohma’s (Baylor) lead at 5-under.

Freshman Megha Ganne fired a 1-under 70 on Sunday and is tied for 10th. She tallied four birdies throughout the opening round.

Junior Sadie Englemann and freshman Kelly Xu, playing in her first collegiate event as a member of the Cardinal’s starting lineup, were both 3-over. Senior Angelina Ye was 5-over on Sunday. 

Stanford’s second round tees off at 10:12 a.m. PT on Monday. The Cardinal will play with Baylor, Ohio State and San Jose State.
