We’re closing in on the start of the 2022 Open Championship at the Old Course at St. Andrews, as the golf world settles in for one of the most anticipated major championships in recent memory. The Home of Golf hosting the 150th edition of the Open has excitement through the roof.
Tiger Woods has returned to the Old Course looking to capture his third Claret Jug at St. Andrews, but Rory McIlroy enters as the betting favorite.
With all the LIV defections, we decided to take a look at the betting odds for PGA Tour players, using the FedEx Cup standings as the base.
Scottie Scheffler (+1500)

Scottie Scheffler didn’t have a win on the PGA Tour at the beginning of 2022. Now? He has four of them, including a major as well as a World Golf Championship title. The young Texan grabbed his first win at the WM Phoenix Open, then, two starts later, took home the title at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge. After slipping on the red cardigan, Scheffler took a trip to his home state for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. He took down the match-play assassin, Kevin Kisner, in the championship for his third win in four outings. In his next start, Scheffler slipped on the green jacket. A decent stretch of golf for the 26-year-old. Scheffler lives in Dallas and thanks to his record-setting year, has topped $21 million on the golf course.
Sam Burns (+4000)

During a season dominated by Scottie Scheffler, Sam Burns has put together quite the résumé, including a playoff win over his best buddy (and world No. 1 Scheffler). Burns started his year on a great note, winning his first event of the new season at the Sanderson Farms. After a stretch of three straight missed cuts, the 25-year-old bounced back nicely once the Tour got to Florida. For his second win of the season, Burns went back-to-back at the Valspar Championship. Seven days after a top 20 at the PGA Championship, Burns took down Scheffler at the Charles Schwab Challenge. The Louisiana resident turned pro in 2017 and has earned over $14 million on the golf course.
