CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illini women’s golf is set to compete in the ICON Invitational at the Golf Club of Houston, hosted by the University of Houston. The two-day tournament will be played on Monday, Feb. 27, through Tuesday, Feb. 28.
THE SETTING
The ICON Invitational is held at the Golf Club of Houston. The event will be played on the Tournament Course, which was designed by architect Rees Jones and former PGA Tour professional David Toms in 2005. The course will be set up for a par 72 and will play 6,209 yards long.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
There will be seven teams competing in the 54-hole tournament. Both days will feature 8:00 a.m. CT shotgun starts, with 36 holes of continuous play on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
THE FIELD
Along with the Illini, the 15-team field for the ICON Invitational will include Charlotte, Houston, Iowa State, Maryland, NC State, North Texas, Oklahoma State, SMU, Southern California, Tennessee, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulsa and UTSA.

ILLINI AT THE ICON INVITATIONAL
This will be the second-straight year that the Illini will compete at the ICON Invitational. In last year’s event, the Orange and Blue finished second out of 15 teams carding a 54-hole total of 850 (-24), the lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history. The team also set a single-round program record by going -15 (273) in the final round. Crystal Wang’s -8 (64) on the final day became the lowest round in program history, surpassing the previous record by two strokes, and her tournament score of -13 (203) is also the lowest in school history. Both Wang and Kornkamol Sukaree recorded Top 10 finishes in the tournament.

UP NEXT
The Illini will return to action on Monday, March 13, where they begin play at the Briar’s Creek Invitational at the Golf Club at Briar’s Creek.
