Women’s Golf Closes Out MountainView Collegiate

The Missouri women’s golf team wrapped up their co-hosted event with Kansas State, the MountainView Collegiate, on Sunday afternoon, finishing in 14th place against a rigorous competitor slate.

The Tigers rounded out a total team score of 871 over the course of the three day, 54-hole tournament, recording a final-round score of 292.

“I think we started off the tournament decent. We saw a lot of great potential the first two days and we just made some silly mistakes, said head coach Caroline Westrup. “The last day was disappointing and not how we had hoped to finish the tournament. We are so much better than that. We are a young team, and we will learn from our mistakes this week, move on and keep practicing hard.”

Freshman Jade Zamora led the way for the Black and Gold, firing a pair of 1-under 71s to sandwich a 74 and finish even-par over with a share of 41st place. Zamora has carded three of her six rounds this season under-par.

Following behind was fellow freshman Melanie Walker whose performance was highlighted by her second round 1-under 71 score. She finished tied for 53rd place with a total event score of 218.

Graduate Sky Sload posted a 1-over 73 to finish with a 219, while junior Emily Staples wrapped up the tournament at T-63 with a weekend score of 220. Finally, freshman Kate Bibby rounded out the lineup with a 54-hole score of 221 after going even-par on the second day.

The Tigers return to action next month at the North Texas-hosted event, the Bruzzy, that runs from April-1-2 in Denton, Texas.
