Clemson, S.C.—Jonathan Nielsen had a one-under-par 71 and Andrew Swanson added an even-par 72 to lead Clemson to a 291 team score and an improvement to sixth place after two rounds of the Linger Longer Invitational on Monday. The 16 teams will conclude the tournament on Tuesday at the Great Waters Golf Club in Eatonton, Ga.
Clemson improved to sixth place with the three-over-par team score and are just two shots behind fifth place Chattanooga. Alabama leads the tournament with a 570, while Georgia is one shot back.
Clemson played the front nine on Monday in five-over-par, then played the back nine in two-under-par. The Tigers posted the sixth best score of the day, including scoring 20 shots better than 16th ranked Virginia. For the second straight day the average score for the 91 players was over 75.
Nielsen’s 71 was his eighth under-par round of the year and included three birdies and two bogeys. He is in a tie for 19th place after two rounds with a 146 score.
Swanson and Kian Rose are Clemson’s top two players after 36 holes with scores of even par 144. Swanson has shot even par 72 in each of the first two rounds, while Rose has had scores of 70-74. They are tied for 11th in the individual race after two rounds.
Thomas Higgins was also a counter with a two-over-par score of 74. The freshman from Ireland had the most birdies among Tigers for the second straight day, and his 11 total for the first 36 ranks second in the field.
Alberto Dominquez had a 79 for the second straight day and stands at 158 after two rounds.
