Men’s Golf Wins the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Florida State Men’s Golf team made history in record-tying fashion on Tuesday, tying a program record by shooting 41-under part as it won the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial held at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Va.

The 41-under team score matches the program low set in 2014 at the USF Invitational. FSU’s three-round aggregate score of 811 (264-274-273) is the second-lowest in school history. The same team established a low of 805 at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate this past fall.

Redshirt junior Cole Anderson earned his first collegiate win at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, earning the honor of co-champion after tying Virginia’s Ben James at 11-under. Anderson now has six Top 10 finishes this year and gets his second in the Top five.

Prior to Tuesday’s win, Anderson’s previous best finish was placing second in the season-opening Maui Jim Intercollegiate on Sept. 11, 2022. In his final round, the Camden, Maine, native shot a 4-under 67 which included five birdies. Anderson is currently ranked 12th overall according to the Golfstat player rankings.

Freshman Luke Clanton received a confidence boost after FSU’s trip to Charlottesville, tying for third overall by shooting 9-under (66-68-70). Clanton’s birdie on the 18th hole gave the Seminoles their record-tying 41-under mark. He finished with four birdies in his final round.

The trio of Jack Bigham, Brett Roberts and Frederik Kjettrup each finished at 7-under and tied for sixth overall. The feat gave the Seminoles all five golfers in the Top six of the tournament. Bigham saved his best shooting for last with a 67 on Tuesday, continuing to build off his impressive freshman season.

Florida State begins its postseason run with the ACC Men’s Golf Championship held April 21-24 at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, N.C.
