COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Illinois women’s golf team opened the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational in 10th place, after carding a first round total of 291 (+3) and a second round 296 (+8), heading into Saturday’s second round at The Ohio State University Golf Club.
Crystal Wang ended the day tied for eighth at 3-under after posting an opening round 71 (-1) followed by a second round (70). Wang picked up on eagle and birdie to go along with a pair of bogeys in her first 18 holes of the day and would pick up five birdies in her final round in the final round of the day.
Wang was one of eight players to pick up an eagle today and posted the second-lowest scoring average on par 3 holes (2.63, -3).
Isabel Sy is tied for 25th at 2-over, shooting a 3-over first round 71 and then a 1-under 71 to close out her day. Sy had a stretch of three birdies in five holes during her second round and bogeyed just two times.
Mattie Frick is tied for 41st, carding a first round 71 (-1) and a second round 78 (+6). Frick birdies three times during the opening round of the tournament.
Lexanne Halama is tied for 60th after rounds of 75 (+3) and 78 (+6). Halama got off to a quick start in her first round, tallying four birdies in the first six holes of play, collecting five total in the first round. Alise Knudson is tied for 82nd after rounds of 83 and 77 (+5).
Hosts Ohio State lead the tournament at 18-under, with Michigan State (-11) and Penn State (-9) rounding out the Top 3. Individually, Caley McGinty (Ohio State), Sarah Willis (Penn State) and Patrice Mackova (Maryland) are tied atop the leaderboard at 9-under.
Sunday’s third and final round begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT.
