FORT WORTH, Texas – Fighting Illini fifth-year senior golfer Adrien Dumont de Chassart has been named 1 of 10 semifinalists for the 2023 Ben Hogan Award, as announced Monday (April 17) by the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation, the Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Dumont de Chassart, the reigning two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, has continued his stellar play into the 2022-23 season, ranking sixth nationally in the latest Golfstat NCAA player rankings released April 16, and No. 5 in the most-recent PGA Tour University rankings as of April 12. He leads the team with a stroke average of 69.7, on pace to break his own single-season school record of 70.08 set last season.
A native of Villers la Ville, Belgium, Dumont de Chassart has remained a model of consistency in the lineup for the No. 3 ranked Fighting Illini, closing seven of nine tournaments on the season as the team’s No. 1 or No. 2 finisher. Through 27 rounds, ha has recorded 21 (77.8%) at par or better with a team-leading 18 (66.7%) rounds under par.
Dumont de Chassart, who owns three victories in his collegiate career, has added three more runner-up finishes in 2022-23 alone, including in the Illini’s season-opener at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational in September, and in the team’s two most-recent outings earlier this month at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational and the Tiger Collegiate Invitational. Overall, he has posted four top 5s and finished outside of the top 15 just once through nine tournaments, a tie for 16th at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, entering the team’s regular-season finale this weekend at Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate, hosted this Saturday and Sunday at the Atkins Golf Club at the University of Illinois.
The Ben Hogan Award presented by PNC Bank annually awards the top men’s NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer based on all collegiate, amateur and professional events over the previous 12 months. The Ben Hogan Award Selection Committee, which votes during each stage of the process, is comprised of 30 leaders in collegiate, amateur and professional golf.
