Freshman Catherine Park fired a 2-under 70 and sophomore Xin (Cindy) Kou carded a 1-under 71 as the No. 15 USC women’s golf team finished the second round of the 2023 Pac-12 Women’s Championship in a tie for first Tuesday (April 18) at the Papago G.C. in Phoenix.
The Trojans, seeking their third Pac-12 title since 2019, were 1-over during the middle round in Arizona after starting the day with a three-stroke lead and will begin the final round at 8-under 568 (279-289).
USC is tied with Arizona, which made up three strokes on the Trojans. Lurking three back is top-ranked Stanford while No. 9 Oregon sits at 2-under and host No. 11 Arizona State is in striking distance, eight back at par.
Park, coming off a tie for second in the regular-season finale, is in the same spot heading into her first Pac-12 Championship final round at 5-under 139 (69-70). The freshman went out at par and came home at 2-under and sits four strokes back of first place.
Behind her are sophomore Amari Avery (70-73) and senior Malia Nam (68-75) who are tied for 13th at 1-under.
Kou climbed into a tie for 20th with her 1-under and now sits at 1-over 145 (74-71) while junior Brianna Navarrosa is tied for 40th at 6-over 150 (72-78).
The Trojans will look to capture their ninth conference title in the final round on Wednesday and will tee off with Arizona beginning at 9:10 a.m.
