TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Women’s Golf standouts Gile Bite Starkute and Carolina Melgrati earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention recognition following the 2023 Pac-12 Women’s Golf Championships. The duo helped guide the team to top-three finishes in three events this season as well as a fourth-place showing at the conference championships.
Starkute, a senior from Lithuania, is on pace to crack the top 20 in program history in career scoring average and competitive rounds played. She elevated her game this season by shaving a half of a stroke off her scoring average from a year ago while amassing five top-10 finishes in 11 events this season. The all-conference accolade is the first of her career. Starkute has been a regular in various college golf academic award lists, including the WGCA All-American Scholar Team and the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll.
The all-conference nod is the second of Melgrati’s Arizona career following her WGCA Honorable Mention All-American campaign as a freshman a year ago. Melgrati is second on the team in scoring average behind Starkute as a sophomore. The Italian was one of three Wildcats to finish tied for 11th at the Pac-12 Championships, giving her a sixth top-20 finish in 2022-23. She also represented Arizona at the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur for a second consecutive year earlier this month.
Arizona is set for NCAA postseason play and will await their NCAA Regionals assignment until the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Wednesday, April 26 on the Golf Channel.
