TUCSON, Ariz. – Behind a top-10 performance from Chase Sienkiewicz, No. 18 Arizona Men’s Golf finished the opening day of 36 holes at the Pac-12 Championships in seventh place at 1-over par. The Wildcats are part of a three-team pack of programs separated by eight strokes on the leaderboard after moving up two positions in the afternoon round. Sienkiewicz ended Friday’s opener in a tie for ninth place at 4-under par.
“We were strong this morning to begin the day, but we stumbled on a handful of holes in the middle of the day,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “The guys were able to return to form to end the day, which will put us in a better position going into Tuesday’s round. We just need to make the necessary adjustments and execute our game plan at a higher level from what we did today over 36 holes. Tomorrow will be a great opportunity to see our team’s maturity and resiliency.”
Sienkiewicz carded rounds of 67 and 69 on Friday to pace the Wildcats. Freshman Filip Jakubcik had Arizona’s second-best day, carding rounds of 70 and 71 to enter Saturday at 1-over and in a tie for 37th.
The Wildcats will play 18 holes on Saturday and be a handful of strokes behind sixth-place Washington State to get into the top half of the leaderboard.
