PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington’s Camille Boyd and Stefanie Deng opened play at the NCAA Pullman Regional with rounds of six and three-under par, respectively, Monday at Palouse Ridge Golf Course.

Playing as individuals in the opening round of the NCAA Regionals, Boyd and Deng are competing to earn a spot at the NCAA National Championships later this month. The low five teams from the Pullman Regional, along with the low individual not on one of those five teams, move on to nationals.

Boyd shot a 6-under 66 to finish the round tied for fourth place, two shots behind co-leader Rose Zhang and Sadie Englemann, both of Stanford.

Boyd, who was in the final group of the day to tee off of hole No. 1, bogied the first and third holes, but then went on a tear. After a birdie on No. 5 and a par on No. 6, she played holes No. 7-11 at 7-under par, thanks to third birdies and back-to-back eagles on the par-5 ninth and 10th holes.

Boyd made par on her final seven holes to finish 6-under.

Deng also spent a significant portion of the day on the top levels of the individual leaderboard. After opening her round with a birdie on the 10th hole, she played the back nine (her first nine) at 3-under, adding birdies on No. 12 and No. 17. On the front nine, she carded one bogey and one birdie to finish the day with a 3-under 69, tying her for 15th place after round one.

Boyd and Deng return to the golf course for round two Tuesday morning. 8:55 a.m. PT. The third and final round follows on Wednesday.
