Florida Five Shots Back into Final Round


RALEIGH, N.C. – The Florida women’s golf team completed round two of the Raleigh Regional on Tuesday and is five shots back from the top-5 cut scheduled for tomorrow. 

The Gators (+7) currently sit in 8th as Arizona (+2) and Purdue (+2) are tied for the final advancing spots to the National Championships at Grayhawk from May 19-24. Florida started strong and was 3-under on the front, but fell some spots back shooting +8 on the back.

Jackie Lucena led the Gators with a round score of 71 (-1) and climbed into the top-10 at T9. She is 1-under overall through 36 holes after an opening round of 72 (E) yesterday. The senior was bogey-free on the front and 2-under. She went birdie-birdie on 15 (par-5, 504) and 16 (par-4, 341) to help keep Florida in reach of the top-5.

Also going 2-under in the first set of nine was Marina Escobar, who made three birdies on the front. She inside the top-25 tied for 21st.

The second UF golfer to go bogey-free on the front of Lonnie Poole Golf Course was Annabell Fuller, who was also celebrating her birthday. Earning her third straight Second Team All-SEC honor last week, she improved three shots from her round one with a 73 (+1) today. 

Subbing in the No. 5 spot in the lineup was Jenny Kim today as she posted a 75 (+3). 

Florida is paired with seventh place TCU (+4) and ninth place Campbell (+20) tomorrow at 8 a.m. Outside of the Horn Frogs, the last team in front of the Gators is Florida State at +3.
