MORGAN HILL, Calif. – No. 18 Mississippi State is set to tee off at the Morgan Hill Regional on Monday at the par-72, 7,561-yard Institute Golf Club in Morgan Hill, California. The regional field consists of 13 teams, four of which closed the regular season in the Golfstat Top 25.
MSU will compete against top-seeded No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 7 Florida State, No. 19 Arizona, Louisville, Baylor, Missouri, BYU, NC State, Cal, Charlotte, Grand Canyon and Northern Colorado.
The top five teams and the lowest individual in the regional not on an advancing team will move on to compete at the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
State’s starting lineup consists of Ford Clegg, Ruan Pretorius, Garrett Endicott, Hunter Logan and Pedro Cruz Silva. Austin Vukovits will serve as the alternate.
Clegg, the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, ended the regular season with a sub-72 season average (71.23) and 18 rounds of par or better, which is tied with Logan for the third-most on the team. The graduate saw four top-20 and three top-10 finishes, two of which were in the top five.
His best finish was a tie for third, leading the Bulldogs to a team win at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate. Clegg also holds program records for career rounds played (149), career rounds in the 60s (42) and par or better (78).
Pretorius is headed into his first postseason appearance as a Bulldog with a 71.93 season average and the second-most rounds of par or better this season. He is one of State’s two individual medalists this season, along with Vukovits, who won the Desert Mountain Invitational and led MSU to its second team win of the season.
Endicott ended his freshman year with the lowest season average on the team (70.90) and led the team with the most rounds of par or better (20). He was named to the second team All-SEC Team and the SEC All-Freshman team in May with the sixth-lowest season average of all freshmen in the conference.
The San Antonio, Texas, native also led the team with the most top-20 (7) and most top-10 (4) finishes on the team. His best finish was a tie for second at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational when he tied the 54-hole program record with 198.
Logan ended his senior season with a sub-72 average (71.83) and tied for the lowest round this season with Endicott (64). He…
