Second round of the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional ends with Yanagi tied for 27th


MORGAN HILL, Calif. (May 16, 2023) – Washington State men’s golf senior Pono Yanagi moved up 18 spots on the player leaderboard during the second round of the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Regional, as he ended the day in a tie for 27th.

Yanagi carded 2-over 74 for the second-straight round at The Institute Golf Club, as he holds a 36-hole score of 4-over 148 entering Wednesday’s third and final round. The Hilo, Hawai’i native opened the second round of the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Regional by collecting back-to-back birdies on his first two holes of the day. In total, Yanagi tallied three birdies and 11 pars during his second go-around the course at The Institute to end the second round at 4-over 78.  

The senior heads into Wednesday’s third round of the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Regional in a tie for 27th on the player leaderboard at 4-over 148. Yanagi enters the tournament’s final round eight strokes off the lead, as NC State’s Maximillian Steinlechner sits atop the player leaderboard at 4-under 140 after 36 holes of play.

The final round of the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Regional will get underway this Wednesday, May 17. Teams tee off between 7:30-10:04 a.m. PT. Yanagi is scheduled to tee off at 9:53 a.m. PT.
