MORGAN HILL, Calif. – The 2022-23 season came to an end for No. 19 Arizona Men’s Golf at the NCAA Morgan Regional after a final round of 6-over par put the Wildcats in a tie for eighth place at 25-over. The Wildcats were unable to rise into the top five of the leaderboards to extend their season into the NCAA Championships.
“We are obviously disappointed in not making it to nationals, but this team accomplished plenty to be proud of this season,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “Today also marks the end of some tremendous careers in our program, which we were able to recognize and celebrate as a team after the round. The goal of every season is to win a national championship, but we were able to achieve a lot of success this year. We have a lot of outstanding young golfers on this team, and I believe they will grow and develop from this season with a hunger to go even farther next season.”
Senior Chaz Aurilia had Arizona’s best round of the day, shooting 1-under for a 71 while fellow senior Chase Sienkiewicz ended the week as Arizona’s top finisher in a tie for 20th at 4-over.
Arizona ended its season with a tournament win and individual title alongside four runner-up finishes as a team. The Wildcats won its home event, the Arizona NIT, in March for the first time in 20 years. Zach Pollo was the co-medalist at the Arizona NIT, becoming the first Arizona freshman to win a tournament since 2004.
The Wildcats qualified for NCAA Regionals for a fifth consecutive season after earning a litany of conference honors from the Pac-12. Sienkiewicz was a Second Team All-Pac-12 selection for a third straight year while Sam Sommerhauser was named All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. Zach Pollo and Filip Jakubcik each earned a spot on the Pac-12 All-Freshmen Team, which gave the program its most conference award winners in a season in 20 years.
