Vanderbilt Women's Golf | Season Comes to a Close

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Vanderbilt’s 2022-23 season came to a close Sunday when the Commodores finished 27th out of 30 teams at the NCAA Championships.

The Commodores never could make up enough ground after a tough opening round Friday and wound up 16 strokes outside the top 15 in order to continue the season Monday.

“I’m really proud of these young ladies and the effort they gave today,” Vandy head coach Greg Allen said. “The golf course played so hard today and that’s what we needed if we were going to have a chance to make a run. We got the help from some of the morning teams coming back to us and I thought if we shot even par we’d make it. As it turns out we would have needed to shoot 4-under and the golf course wasn’t giving that up today.”

Vandy, in the final grouping Sunday afternoon, was led by senior Tess Davenport and junior Virginie Ding who each carded a 2-over-par 74 at the 6,368-yard Grayhawk Golf Club. Davenport (+9) tied for 89th overall and Ding (+11) tied for 107th.

Celina Sattelkau was Vanderbilt’s highest finisher at 5-over-par for the tournament. The senior tied for 60th overall.

Lynn Lim and Tillie Claggett, both making their NCAA Championships debut, carded 76s on Sunday. Lim (+9) tied for 89th overall while Claggett (+16) tied for 133rd.

“I can’t say thank you enough to our seniors for giving this program and Vanderbilt University everything they had for four years,” Allen said. “I’m super pumped about the crew coming back next year, along with the incoming freshmen.

“I also want to give a shout out to associate head coach Emilie Meason. She made a really positive impact with these girls this year and helped us have the steady season we had.”

Vanderbilt’s 2022-23 season included wins at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate (Oct. 9) and FAU Paradise Invitational (Feb. 7) as well as six top-five finishes. The Dores advanced to the NCAA Championships for the second seasons in a row.
