SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The No. 7 seeded Florida State Men’s Golf team got itself off to a good start on day one of the NCAA Championships, sitting in eighth place through the opening round at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Seminoles’ 4-over 284 round was their lowest at Grayhawk since recording a 6-under 274 on May 30, 2021, when they were the top-seeded team in the tournament. FSU is just four strokes behind tournament leader Georgia Tech, which is at even par.
Junior Brett Roberts recorded his second NCAA Championship round in the 60s when he carded a 1-under 69 on Friday. The Coral Springs, Fla., native was nearly mistake-free all morning and afternoon, adding just one bogey while adding two birdies and 15 pars in a strong performance.
Roberts was one of 18 golfers who shot under par in the first round.
Freshman Jack Bigham continued his solid play in the postseason, shooting an even-par 70. He recorded three birdies and three bogeys on a difficult golf course in what was his first career round in NCAA Championship play.
Fellow freshman Luke Clanton snapped his streak of nine consecutive rounds at par or lower but ended with a good score of 2-over 72. The Hialeah, Fla., native’s round was highlighted by consecutive birdies on holes 7 and 8 at Grayhawk.
